Co-enzyme Q10: classic form of Q10 (ubiquinone), high dose, vegan
The vitamin-like substance Co-enzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) plays a central role in energy production in the power plants of our cells, the so-called mitochondria . There, with the help of Q10, food energy (e.g. fats, carbohydrates) is converted into cell energy.
The total amount of Q10 in the body in an adult is around 0.6 to 1.5 grams. We take around 2 with food every day up to 3 µg. The highest Q10 concentrations are found in organs with high energy requirements, such as the heart muscle, the liver, the kidneys and the pancreas.
The individual need for co-enzyme Q10 varies
If the body lacks co-enzyme Q10, this can initially become noticeable through exhaustion or lack of drive. An increased needcan occur with stress, strong muscle activity, high alcohol consumption, sport or illness.
It is interesting to know that taking statins can increase the need for Q10, because they not only inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol, but also the body's own production of Q10.
